According to reports, a landfill located in Newport, Wales, UK, has attracted attention for storing an accidentally discarded hard drive containing a set of wallet private keys containing 7500 bitcoins. These bitcoins are currently worth approximately $750 million. The owner of the hard drive, James Howells, has attempted to sue the city council multiple times in the past, hoping to obtain permission to enter the site or seek compensation, but all attempts have failed.

The landfill has been in operation since the early 2000s, and the city council plans to close it between 2025 and 2026. Part of the land will be converted into a solar power plant to supply the city government's growing fleet of electric waste vehicles with electricity.
